on my heart 1 of 12

1/12 of the way through this 2020 and here are some things on my heart (a roundup):

~ I started making frittata and it’s a great way to be. The recipe I’m honing is a cross between a classic frittata and kuku sabzi, a light Persian frittata featuring turmeric, walnuts and herbs.

~ I bought really, really big paper and am sketching out plans and life. I know, make plans and god laughs! Still it’s a cool way forward and helps me identify what matters most. As we stepped into the Year of the Metal Rat last week, I learned that the rat’s superpower is to gather information, strategize and make innovative plans to create change. Big rat energy right now. Thank you to Narrye Caldwell for the wisdom and to Mystic Mamma for leading me to Narrye!

~ I have listened to Sahar Habibi’s Un Autre Endroit mix many, many times. It is peaceful and beautiful and I highly recommend it for an easy morning.

~ I am reading Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins and falling more deeply in love with Portland and with winter. This quote from the book sums up the current magic:

New Orleans rain smelled of sulfur and hibiscus, trumpet metal, thunder, and sweat. Seattle rain, the widespread rain of the Great Northwest, smelled of green ice and sumi ink, of geology and silence and minnow breath. (312)

*As a disclaimer: I cherish New Orleans rain dearly. I’m just loving the rain I got right now, and that feels good.

~I’ve been dreaming more and paying attention. The Quotable Jung was suggested to me by a teacher I respect very much, and it has been intriguing and useful.

~ I had a party for my furry baby (see pic below) and intend to host more gatherings to celebrate the things that make me smile.

~ I’ve been taking walks around my neighborhood before sunset on days I’m not doing something else. It’s a nice way to be outside, breath air, move my body, and be part of ushering in the shift from day to night.

~ I want to say explicitly that I do not support the settler colonial policies of the Israeli state, the settlement of Palestinian land or the oppression of Palestinian people. I was disgusted by (one of several) Trump distraction actions this week—the so-called Peace Plan that did not include Palestinian voices or dreams. It’s nothing new, but I’m extra embarrassed by our country’s administration right now.

~ Go see Fantastic Fungi! If you’re in Portland, it’s playing right now at Theatre 21 in NW. It will change your mind, and your life. For real!

~ My trust in god/ all everything-ness is strong. I am embodied stability, centered in that which holds, and I savor precious space and stillness.

What’s on your heart? If you want to share, I want to hear. Write me!

Now February, for frilly things and deeper inner knowing.
