Granny
Granny died July 12, 2019. The below was transcribed from a voice memo made July 22, 2019:
So I wanted to get into her atmosphere. Peggy Jane Bingham. So as I was opening the box, I just started falling madly in love with everything inside, and putting it on, and getting into character. The character is me getting into Granny’s atmosphere, I wasn’t playing Granny. I kept trying to wear her glasses but I really couldn’t see anything, so in the photo I ended up taking I’m wearing my own glasses. So inspired by— styled by Bryn and Granny collab.
When I pulled out the photo that I had framed, just in a simple frame for her, for Mother’s Day that I sent in a flurry of framing sweet photos for Mother’s Day for mothers and Grannies of Evan and I. I sent her that, when we talked later she said thank you for it. And I got it back, and it’s the sweetest and it’s very clear that Granny is an angel. She has this big smile on her face, bright smile on her face that just says “Haha! Here I am with sharp wit and voluminous presence.”
Maybe Pt. 2 On Death is coming, because when I was gazing at that photo, seeing Granny just bright as can be, the not-here-ness of Granny feels deep and palpable, entrenched and palpable, and she is so all-everythingness. Completely present.
And we look happy. And this is a treasure.
Thanks for listening.
The scarf came with a note: “The Elvis impersonator that performed at the Courtyard wrapped this around Granny’s neck”.
